A Love Story
Our Story
How We Met
A Game of Chess
It started at a gazebo on UConn's West Campus in Storrs, Connecticut. Brendan had noticed Sarah sitting there before, but it wasn't until one afternoon — over a game of chess — that they actually spoke. She was sweet, charming, and had a joy about her that was impossible to miss. He was sharp, kind, and had a quiet confidence she didn't expect. Everything just clicked. What began as a single conversation became the foundation of something neither of them saw coming.

Growing Together
Built on Friendship
What followed were years of learning each other in the best way — through friendship and honest conversation. Brendan discovered that Sarah is an incredible cook, a gifted piano player, and has a sense of humor and a heart bigger than anyone he's ever known. Sarah learned that Brendan can pick up just about anything and find a way to win at it. Together, they found their rhythm: board game nights, competitive rounds of Mario Kart, afternoons on the boat, and countless games of pool. When life brought big career changes that landed them both in New Haven, it only proved what they already knew — they were building something that was meant to last.
The Proposal
Back to the Gazebo
Brendan knew the place had to be the same one where it all began. With the help of Sarah's best friend and her sisters, the plan came together — a day trip back to UConn, walking through campus for old times' sake. When they reached the gazebo, it had been transformed: candles lit along the railing, roses set on the table, and photographs from their years together hanging all around, each one paired with a handwritten story. Brendan read every word to her. By the time he got down on one knee, Sarah was already in tears. Her sisters and brother-in-law were there to witness the moment. Eight years after a game of chess in that very spot, the story came full circle.
